Meet Beki!

October 8, 2015
I am so excited to introduce you to Beki.  She and I met while playing soccer together at BYU-Idaho.  She has a passion for health and fitness and I love hearing her story.  I hope you enjoy hearing about her journey and learning about how she got to where she is today.

Growing up, I was always super active, and relatively in shape. I am passionate about soccer, and as a teenager, I played every single day. However, a lot of my immediate family has struggled most of their life with weight issues all of their lives. I have seen obesity, and how it affects the individual themselves as well as their loved ones.

A couple years into my marriage, things started to go down hill. They started to go down hill fast. In my first two years of marriage, I really wasn’t super active. I played soccer a couple times a week, but that was about it. I also had an issue with binge eating. I LOVE food to this day! Any food. If it tastes good, I want it in my mouth! Everything seemed fine and dandy until one day I realized that most of my clothes stopped fitting they way I wanted them to. I could tell by the way that I felt that I had gained weight, but I was too scared to step on the scale.

When I finally gained the courage to face the scale, I realized that I had gained 25 pounds in 2 years. This was scary to me. I had seen weight problems in my own family, and I knew at that moment that I was probably going to have the same issues. I began to have terrible self image problems, and a severe lack of confidence. I just kept packing on the pounds. My husband can attest to the fact that I began to fall into a state of depression. I used my free gym membership I had at the time to try to get back on track, and I would have some success – a pound here and there – but nothing like I had hoped for, and nothing what I truly needed.

One morning my husband told me he wanted to work out with me. I was so excited to think I would have a little support! But we did not have time to go to the gym. So we searched YouTube for a workout video we could do at home. We stumbled across a clip from a T25 video. We tried it out…. and I COULD NOT BELIEVE the amazing workout I was able to get in such a short period of time!

We were hooked. We immediately ordered the full T25 program. I followed that program completely, with the help of my husband, and I was able to shed all of the weight I had put on in just a matter of a couple months. I was thrilled!

A few months later, we were FINALLY blessed with expectation of a baby. After 9 long, and highly anticipated month of waiting, I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl, Ellyse (Ellie). Unfortunately, though, I didn’t care at all during my pregnancy about what I ate. I basically lived off of Beefy Five Layer Burritos from Taco Bell. During the course of my pregnancy, I gained 50 lbs. 20 lbs of that came off easily in the first couple months, but then I hit a brick wall…. 30 lbs over weight. Once again, those terrible thoughts of negative body image and lack of self confidence and self worth crept in. I was desperate to lose weight – not necessarily to “get my body back” but to get my confidence and my life back.

This is where round 2 of my fitness journey began. I started a program called Insanity Max:30, and signed up as an online fitness coach through Beachbody. I knew that becoming a coach would help me remain more accountable, especially if I was trying to help others reach their fitness goals as well. I began using a portion control eating plan, so that I was giving my body the BEST nutrition possible. I was working out every day, doing a program that was really really hard for me. It was incredibly humbling. I began helping other women start their fitness journeys as well as I held online accountability groups to help motivate and inspire people to stick to a health and fitness program.

These past 4.5 months have completely changed my life. It has completely changed my perspective. In the past 4.5 months, I have lost 30 pounds, and for the first time in my life, I basically have a 6 pack. But beyond all the inches I have shed, there is a lot more to say in regards to all of the negativity I have shed from my life. I have gained a greater appreciation for the body Heavenly Father has blessed with. I have allowed people in my life who are positive, amazing examples of trying to live healthy lives. I have been able to help others start and stick to their fitness journeys. Through my efforts to get and stay healthy and help others, I have been able to provide an income for my family.

Looking back, I wish I could take away all those tears. I wish I could take away all those negative thoughts about my body image. I wish I could take away the helpless feelings I felt before I started my fitness journey. But truth be told, those experiences have allowed me to grow into the person I am now. A better, healthier, happier version of Beki Call.
