What I Learned from My Unexpected Social Media Break

November 10, 2017

As many of you know, I am usually much more active than I have been over the past month.  Hitting the due date of our sweet angel, Emma caused so many emotions.  I recognized that things I saw on Social Media were really getting my emotions going.  So, I decided I would take a step back and not be on Social Media.  There were times that I did get on and spend a few minutes checking up on some friends and their lives, but I wasn’t on as much as I used to be.

From this experience there were several things I learned and wanted to share with you.

Benefits of taking a Social Media Break:

  1. I was so much more productive around the house!

I’ve had several things on my “To-Do List” that have been waiting for me to get around to them.  Hopefully, I’m not the only one with those few things that always get added again and again to every To-Do List that I create.  Finally, I took the time to get those tasks off my list, and now I’m adding more tasks to my list that I hopefully get to sooner than I used to.

  2. Spending Quality Time with Scott.

We are both so busy with work and life that we have a hard time doing much together.  After long busy days, our “Quality Time” sometimes consists of sitting down and watching something on Netflix.  There’s something about sitting with each other and feeling close.  It quickly makes all our worries go away.  Plus, we were able to start Stranger Things! (If you haven’t watched it yet…you’re missing out!)

  3. I found time to read.

My sister-in-law is always sharing with me great books that she’s reading and I finally got around to reading them! Daily, I encourage my students to read daily, and I do read, but most of the time it’s when I read with them.  I love reading and I was finally able to find time to read for myself.  Plus, I was able to get around to reading some books on my own Reading Bucket List.

Challenge yourself to take a break from Social Media this week, even if it’s an hour.  As you do the challenge you will find time to do at least one of the things listed above this week.  If you get around to it more than usual, way to go!

Also, I want to express how much we appreciate all the love and support we are continually given as we go forward with another round of IVF.  So far, everything is going well.   I am working on a little something to share with you how things are going, which should be coming within the next week.
