Sweet Child of Mine: You’re Coming!
December 28th at 2:36 PM
I received the call that I had been anxiously awaiting for the past nine days — it was my IVF coordinator. She was asking how I was doing, and I couldn’t lie, I told her, “I’m so nervous and excited.” Her response to that was, “Well, you should be excited because you’re pregnant!”
The joy and gratitude that came was so overwhelming and wonderful. We chatted for a few more minutes to discuss appointments and how things will go for the coming weeks. After getting off the phone, I fell to my knees to thank my Heavenly Father for blessing me with what I have fervently prayed and yearned for with all my heart: another blessing to enter into my life, which is YOU!
Then, I called Scott to let him know. He answered and as I tried to hold back the tears, I told him, “We’re having a girl! I’m pregnant!” He was beyond happy and excited to hear the news. We both can’t wait to meet you and hold you in our arms.
Leading Up to the News
It felt like a long, but also quick nine days after the Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET). I just had a half-day of work with fun class parties and festivities to finish up before the school winter break and a special Christmas Luncheon with my co-workers too. The day after, even though I was off work for the break, I went in to get a few things done at the school but then took it easy the rest of the day.
Some family was in town visiting, so we had a “girl’s lunch date” one day with my sisters-in-law, which was so fun; then, another day we rode the UTA FrontRunner up to Temple Square in Salt Lake City to see the thousands of beautiful Christmas lights…always a favorite, especially after the Christmas memories I have from when I was serving my mission there; and then other evenings were filled with game/chat nights with all the family.
Christmas Eve finally came around and we celebrated with family by having our traditional “Mary and Joseph Dinner.” It was so delicious! I tried new things that I had never even heard of, and have already gone to the store to buy some to have here in our home.
Christmas morning arrived and we were invited by some neighbors a few houses away to join them for breakfast. Then, we came home to chat with our families and open gifts together, all thanks to Apple’s FaceTime. We went out to visit your big sister, Emma, and give her headstone a little Christmas spirit. Our night ended with going out to have Christmas dinner with family again. It was definitely a different Christmas for the two of us as we have always gone to stay with our parents but we know that staying home was what we needed to do. And because we know you’re coming, we now realize that you were actually with us for all those moments, no matter how tiny you were!
Now That We Know
It has been quite the adventure to get you here Little One. So many members of our families and so many of our friends have prayed for you, hoped for you, sacrificed for you, and anxiously awaited this very news. From now on Christmas will be an additionally special time for us as we look back to this year, awaiting the news of your coming birth. We even started new traditions to always remember those who have given so much to help bring you to us. We shared so many special moments with others as we prayed, exchanged gifts, and lit candles for you at Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. You are already so loved, and what a lucky girl you are for that!
We love you and continue to pray that you are healthy, strong, and that you keep growing as you should. Our hearts overflow with gratitude towards those that have been a part of this journey with us; the strength those charitable souls have and still do give us is unbelievable and so very sustaining in our lives. Charity is the pure love of Jesus Christ and how deeply touched we are to have received this gladsome news during the same time when shepherds of old offered their “joyous strains and heavenly songs,” welcoming the birth of our Savior, “Christ the Lord, the Newborn King.”
Thank you everyone and know we are so excited to announce that we will be welcoming our Sweet Child, a baby girl, come September 2018!
